CID District 8 Day
Last week our team visited the Chinatown International District for another District 8 Day.
CM Mosqueda and members of her team with Chu Minh Tofu owner Thanh-Nga Nguyễn
Chu Minh Tofu and Vegan Deli owner Tanya started the eggrolls in 2018 as a way to give back to the community. Her all volunteer group provides free meals to anyone, no questions asked every Sunday. The food made at Chu Minh is some of the best vegan fare around.
Daniel Pak of Totem Star, Briar and Joe Seamons of the Rhapsody project, Dr James Gore of Jackson Street Music Program, Olisa Enrico and Ubax Gardheere of Cultural Space Agency.

Next stop was the incredible cultural space housed in King Street Station Arts. The Cultural Space Agency has done such a great job brining this into existence housing organizations like Totem Star, Jackson Street Music Program, the Rhapsody Project, Red Eagle Soaring and Wh!psmart. This space in the train station sat vacant for decades and now brings together young people from across the region to create art and activating the area.
CM Mosqueda and Team with Co-Executive Directors Jamie Lee and Jared Johnson
No trip to the CID would be complete without checking with SCIDPDA to talk housing. They are leading the way preserving the historic character of this area and creating units of housing community members can actually afford to live in. Co-Executive Directors Jamie Lee and Jared Johnson are always working on projects that will have significant and positive impacts in the neighborhood.
Quick pit stop at Hood Famous for coffee. Their Central District Location is well known, some might even say famous, but they also have a wonderful spot in the CID.
We started off the meeting with the traditional practice of cleansing the space with sage smoke, known as smudging.
CM Mosqueda and team with some of the leadership of the Seattle Indian Health Board
We closed out the day with a tour of the Seattle Indian Health Board’s facility. We learned about the work they are doing caring for the community integrating Traditional Medicine with Western Medicine resulting in better outcomes. On top of all this, they are also helping produce the next generation of Providers and Healthcare workers, addressing a critical shortage locally and nationally.
Opening of DESC's Bloomside facility in Burien
CM Mosqueda and team joined by Reps Nicole Macri and Emily Alvardo and Alison Eisinger of the Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness
Bloomside opened last week and is a great example of a permanent supportive housing facility that is beautiful, green and a critical addition to a community that has a population that will greatly benefit from these units. This site marks DESC's first facility outside of Seattle and provides 95 units of housing that will help individuals get housed and healthy.

Saying Goodbye to Full Tilt in White Center
Community enjoying and waiting in line for Full Tilt ice cream this past Saturday.
Art work honoring Full Tilt Co-Founder Justin
It was a bittersweet day as the community came together in White Center to visit Full Tilt one last time. With the passing of owner Justin, the WC location will no longer be open. We will miss this spot as a community fixture and the work Justin did to constantly build and nurture that same community.
Community Spotlight
It’s my honor to announce that Roxana Pardo Garcia is the District 8 recipient of the MLK Award. I will be presenting it to her for her work in the community on June 11th.
PSA on SCL: Higher than expected costs? Get help
Recently, a West Seattle neighbor told me they had been receiving Seattle City Light bills of around $1,000 – that seemed way too high. It follows an audit I requested of Seattle City Light in 2018after receiving numerous complaints about Seattle City Light’s billing practices when it implemented its new advanced metering system. This audit helped result in a $3.5 million settlement as a result of consumers raising concerns. District 8 residents from downtown Seattle through parts of White Center and beyond are Seattle City Light customers. I want to make sure our residents know that if you believe you have experienced a billing error and would like to dispute a bill with Seattle City Light, there are four progressive steps to the bill dispute process listed here on Seattle City Light’s website. Please also let us know if you have any questions. The team at SCL has been actively helping folks navigate concerns and we wanted to make sure to make this information available.
Thank you for signing up for the #TeresaTuesday Newsletter. We will send you regular updates every other week. If you’d like to reach out or have an issue we can help with, please reach out anytime.
Thank you for allowing us to represent you on the King County Council!
