There’s been a lot of work in Bellevue’s Enatai Beach Park since King County’s sewer upgrade project began in 2022. The new pipe taking sewage from Mercer Island and Bellevue to the County's treatment plant in Renton connects at Enatai Beach Park.
As the project progresses, some areas of the park closed for construction can be returned for use this summer before closing again after Labor Day.
Here’s a highlight of what we’ve been working on in the area:
-
Installed new Enatai Siphon (#3 on Map 1)
- Crews installed 3,000 feet of pipe (Enatai Siphon) under the Enatai Hillside.
- This pipe connects between Enatai Beach Park and the Sweyolocken Pump Station at Mercer Slough.
- Constructed new pipe diversion and odor control structures under the I-90 bridge (#4 on Map 1)
- Connected new sewer pipes near the south parking lot and swim beach
-
Installed new East Channel Siphon in Lake Washington to connect Mercer Island and Bellevue (#2 on Map 1)

What’s coming up in the area:
South parking lot and path to Enatai swim beach will reopen this summer
The work area near the Enatai swim beach and south parking lot will open this summer for park users to enjoy. Park users will notice new landscaping, a repaved south parking lot, and restored pedestrian pathways. This summer, park users will be able to access both parking lots, as well as the playground, swim beach, and REI Boathouse.
Crews will continue work in the closed area behind the construction fence. This summer, crews will restore the shoreline under the I-90 bridge where new pipes were installed.
South parking lot and Enatai swim beach to close after Labor Day
After Labor Day, crews will begin work to reline existing sewer pipes along the Bellevue shoreline and in Enatai Beach Park. The work requires the south parking lot, swim beach, and pedestrian path to the swim beach to close again. These closures help keep everyone safe while crews work in the area. The north parking lot, playground, and pedestrian path to the playground will remain open.
Once construction is complete, crews will restore the entire area around Enatai Beach Park. This includes landscaping, repaving, and installing a new maintenance access road under the I-90 bridge.
