Affordable housing and a safe, connected transportation system are both critical components for safe, healthy, and welcoming communities. This week and last, I was honored to deliver keynote addresses at events with Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties (MBAKS) and Cascade Bicycle Club (Cascade) to talk about how we can work together to make progress on these vital investments.
Thank you, MBAKS, for inviting me to speak!
Last week with MBAKS, I focused on our region’s work to build more housing at every affordability level in every community and the barriers we face as we try to tackle our regional housing crisis. I want King County to be a place where young people can afford to become independent and start their lives, families can raise their children in safe neighborhoods, workers at all income levels can live near their jobs, and seniors can age in place in the communities they know and love. Partnering with housing experts like the leaders at MBAKS can help make that possible.
This week with Cascade, I shared my personal experiences as someone who uses a bike for my daily transportation—how the absence of safe and connected bikeways in our communities makes it difficult and often dangerous to ride a bike and the challenges of building a transportation system that makes biking an everyday transportation option for more people. I was inspired by the passion and commitment of the advocates in the room and look forward to continuing this essential work!

Each year, we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month to honor the cultures and contributions of AANHPI communities. This year, the City of Bellevue and MG2 are hosting an art exhibit showcasing the diverse talents and narratives of artists with AANHPI roots and connections to the Pacific Northwest. From traditional to contemporary expressions, immerse yourself in a series of colors, textures and stories that illuminate the unique cultural legacies and experiences of AANHPI peoples.
The exhibit will be on display on the City Hall concourse from May 6-31. The community is invited to attend an opening reception next Wednesday, May 8 at Bellevue City Hall from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, featuring Taiko drumming and a lion dance. Registration is required!
