Your Weekly Update on What's Happening at the King County Council

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you will join me at the 4th annual King County Conference on Substance Use Disorders on Thursday, June 6th at Highline College in Des Moines, with the opportunity to attend virtually!

All are welcome to attend, and the event is free of charge. Whether you are interested in learning more about recovery and the recovery community for your own benefit, for the benefit of a loved one who struggles with substance use, or for your neighbors in King County – this conference is for you.

In 2021, I established the King County Conference on Substance Use Disorders to share resources and ideas for our community as substance use surged during the Pandemic. Over the last three years, we have brought people together, both in person and virtually, from all across the county to talk about prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery for our family, friends, and neighbors. Because of the popularity and success of this conference, I worked to provide funding in King County’s 2023-24 budget to bring it to you again this year as both an in person and a virtual conference.

The conference will feature two keynotes this year! We are honored to have both Derrick Belgarde, the Executive Director of the Chief Seattle Club and Chris Poulos, the Executive Director at the Center for Justice and Human Dignity. We will have sessions that cover topics like stories of hope, providing care, navigating care for families, the bright future of our youth, and more.

You can register online at kingcounty.gov/sudconference. I hope to see you there!

All my best,
