Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I recently stopped by the Issaquah Food Bank to present a check for $25,000 to support their work providing quality food, hygiene items, emergency supplies, and resource referrals to folks in need.
I secured this funding for the Issaquah Food Bank in King County's 2023 mid-biennial budget after seeing how food banks in our region are struggling to keep up with the great need in our communities. One food bank in my district reported to me that the number of households they serve is on track to double from 2020. We also know that food insecurity is greater in rural areas compared to urban areas, due to many factors such as a lack of transportation options and less access to aid organizations. These dollars will go far to feed hungry people in our suburban and rural communities at a time when help is greatly needed.
I worked for similar funding allocations for multiple other food banks across District 9, including those in Enumclaw, Maple Valley, and Covington. These dollars were sourced from the final allocation of federal emergency Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery funds.
If you are able, I encourage you to support your local food bank today!
All my best,
Reagan Dunn King County Councilmember District 9
