On Tuesday, King County, the City of Redmond, The Salvation Army, and the community came together to celebrate the grand opening of the Redmond Health through Housing site. Health through Housing is a King County initiative aiming to provide up to 1,600 units of emergency and permanent supportive housing for people experiencing or at risk of chronic homelessness. The Redmond Health through Housing facility is the first to open on the Eastside and will offer residents a permanent home, 24/7 staffing, and support services, including transit navigators and an Orca card, daily meals, case management, and behavioral health care tailored to meet individual needs.
Everyone needs and deserves a safe, affordable place to call home and, with this opening, we are making that a reality for 100 more people. Permanent supportive housing is a proven, life-changing solution to homelessness and I’m thrilled that we are making investments like Health through Housing to start scaling the solution to the size of the problem. To tackle our regional homelessness crisis, we all need to do our part. Partnerships like the Redmond Health through Housing site bring us one step closer to ensuring everyone has a healthy, stable home.
Have thoughts on the Northeast Recycling and Transfer Station?
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Northeast Recycling and Transfer Station, which includes studies of two potential sites and a no-action alternative, is open for public comment until Tuesday, April 9. Wherever it’s sited, the future Northeast Recycling and Transfer Station will feature compaction equipment to make hauling more efficient, reduce truck traffic and vehicle emissions, be fully enclosed to contain noise and odors, and offer more recycling services to keep garbage out of the landfill.
You can visit the project website and Online Open House to join any time to review information and submit a formal comment. Comments can also be emailed to northeast@kingcounty.gov or mailed to:

Alert: Bellevue Library closures coming
On Monday, April 8, the Bellevue Library will have a full building and parking garage closure for a major window replacement project. The library will reopen on Tuesday, April 9 with limited walk-up services in the lobby through early May to ensure patron safety during the project. You’ll be able to pick up holds, drop off returns, and browse a limited number of new and recommended books. There will be another full building and parking garage closure, tentatively scheduled for May 11, after which the library will fully reopen.
You can still get your fix of a full library experience at other King County Library System branches! Make a trip to one of Bellevue’s three neighborhood branches to browse books to your heart’s content; visit the Kirkland Library for their International Film Series; check out the Welcoming Center at the Redmond Library if you’re an immigrant, refugee, or new community member and need help finding resources; or experience Mandarin Story Time at the Mercer Island Library. Enjoy the many and varied programs and services the King County Library System has to offer!
