Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) has an exciting opportunity for an Animal Shelter Administrator!
 
We are looking for someone who takes great interest in the health and wellbeing of animals and can also work considerately and effectively with their human owners. The Animal Shelter Administrator will be a leader in service excellence committed to building an enduring legacy of continuous improvement and employee engagement. This position will supervise a team of Animal Care Technicians and will report to the Animal Control Sergeant Lead.
 
ABOUT REGIONAL ANIMAL SERVICES OF KING COUNTY (RASKC):
RASKC provides animal services to 24 cities and unincorporated King County, this includes: rescuing stray, injured, neglected or abused pets; reuniting orphaned pets with families and/or helping them find forever homes through RASKC's pet adoption centers in Kent and Kirkland, including several other partner locations; providing pet licensing services; a wide array of volunteering opportunities and much more. King County is a national leader in improving animal outcomes as a municipal shelter, using data and model practices to achieve greater than 90% save rate.

SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES: In order to be considered minimally qualified for this role, you must demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to perform the following:
  • Oversee and coordinate the daily shelter operations; 
  • Supervise a team of Animal Care Technicians; 
  • Provide daily direction to staff including assigning work;  Oversee animal flow within the shelter;
  • Respond to complaints that may be difficult and complex and determine course of action;  
  • Safely handle aggressive, sick, injured or diseased animals;
  •  Investigate impounded animals to locate owners;
  • Perform opening and closing of the facility, front desk, and all buildings.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO:
  • Have animal shelter experience
  • Have previous supervisory experience
  • Have customer service experience with diverse communities and populations
  • Have the ability to handle animals in a humane manner under a variety of conditions and are willing to vaccinate and euthanize animals as directed
  • Are experienced in animal handling and behavior assessment techniques, proper methods for the care and feeding of animals, cleaning of cages, kennels, and other areas
  • Are skilled in engaging and building relationships with colleagues, staff and community members
  • Can handle cash, accurately account for monies, licenses, and items subject to inventory and accurately make mathematical calculations and enter data
Union Membership: This position is represented by Animal Control Officer Guild (ACOG).
 
WORK SCHEDULE:
Typical schedule will be 4/10hr days (7:30am-6:30pm) that may include a Saturday or Sunday. Schedules are subject to change. This full-time position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Overtime work may be required. Alternate shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, as well as extended and/or flex scheduled work hours may be required to meet the operational business needs.
The work associated with this position will primarily be performed onsite; this is not a telework position. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
 
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Washington State Driver’s License
  • The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical including the ability to perform moderate to difficult strenuous manual tasks including lifting animals weighing up to sixty (60) pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Euthanasia Drug Certification.
