Your Weekly Update on What's Happening at the King County Council  

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I recently visited with staff at the Renton School District and Renton Schools Foundation, delivering three King County grants—totaling $12,000—to the organizations. 

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn with Renton School District Superintendent Damien Pattenaude, Renton Schools Foundation Board President Pam Teal, and others.

These funds will support the important educational programs at the Renton Schools Foundation and athletic programs at both Hazen High School and Lindbergh High School. I am always proud to support our Renton students, and am glad to see these dollars going toward giving students more opportunities to learn and participate in athletics!

Major federal funding earmarked for salmon on upper Green River

The Howard Hanson Dam

This week, it was announced that President Biden has earmarked $500 million to open 100 miles of critical habitat for salmon in the upper Green River, creating a path past the Howard Hanson Dam for juvenile fish to migrate downstream. I am glad to see these federal dollars earmarked to help salmon populations here in King County. Thank you to the entire bipartisan Washington congressional delegation for advocating for this funding and for supporting the recovery of our Puget Sound salmon!

Property Tax Relief Programs

First half property taxes are due April 30. For more information about payment options or to sign up for text and email reminders about your property taxes, visit the Property Tax Payment Information webpage. 

If you have not received a statement yet, you may call 206-263-2890, email propertytax.customerservice@kingcounty.gov, or request a tax statement online.

Limited Income Deferral Program

Property owners on a limited income may be eligible for tax relief. Find more information at the King County Assessor website.

Tax Relief Programs for Seniors and People with Disabilities

In 2019, the State Legislature passed Senate Bill 5160, which expanded the qualifying income thresholds for the property tax exemption and deferral programs. If you applied for a property tax exemption in the past but didn’t qualify, please consider applying for 2024 since the allowable income levels have increased substantially to $84,000. Do you need help filing your taxes? Visit the King County Library System website for a list of resources to help you this tax season.

In addition to in-person help at local libraries, there is also virtual assistance available through United Way and AARP.

Veteran Outreach & Resource Programs RFP

The Veteran Outreach & Resource Programs Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks to allocate VSHSL funds to qualified agencies to provide outreach and resources to King County veterans, military servicemembers, and their respective families who will benefit from connection to and provision of community resources. Proposals are due March 20, 2024 by 2:00 PM.
