Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We have started to see the first signs of Spring here in South King County and as the seasons begin to change, many organizations have positions for seasonal work, grants and workshop applications, and countless other opportunities opening up. There are positions in King County Parks, grants for bicycle safety work in our communities, applications for the Renton Farmer's Market, and so much more detailed in this newsletter.

King County Citizens Elections Oversight Committee Seeks New Members 

The APPLICATION DEADLINE has been EXTENDED for applications for the following opportunities to serve on the King County Citizens’ Election Oversight Committee (CEOC): 

  • One representative of the Vietnamese-speaking community. The term of this position ends in December 2026. 
  • One representative from the disability community. The term of this position ends in July 2025.  

The mission of the Citizens' Elections Oversight Committee (CEOC) is to help King County maintain public confidence in elections. The CEOC makes recommendations to the Council to improve the performance of the Department of Elections, and helps ensure that accountability and performance of the Department of Elections is provided in a transparent manner that is meaningful to the residents of King County.

CEOC Open Positions

King County Parks is Hiring for their Youth Conservation Corps  

Love parks and being outdoors? King County Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a PAID summer internship program for teens interested in jobs in parks and the environment. 

YCC Interns: 

  • Engage in discussions about the intersections of race and the environment 
  • Lead conversations with other interns on self-selected topics 
  • Develop and build-upon career skills such as writing, public speaking, and interviewing 
  • Become familiar with land management practices and the multiple facets of a park agency 
  • Network with Parks staff, community leaders, and environmental professionals 
  • Explore solutions to problems impacting human and environmental health 
  • Participate in workshops about local environmental challenges 

Prior experience or previous involvement with parks, environmental activities, or similar programs is not required.

King County Parks is Hiring for Seasonal Positions! 

Do you love the great outdoors and are passionate about preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of our public lands? Do you want to make a meaningful impact on your community by ensuring that our parks are well-maintained and safe for all to enjoy?  

Join the King County team as a Seasonal Maintenance Worker and make a meaningful impact on your community while spending time in the great outdoors! 

As a vital member of the Parks Seasonal team, you will be performing a variety of work tasks such as landscaping, athletic field maintenance, trail building and maintenance, construction and demolition, invasive weed removal, restoration, planting and working with volunteer groups, etc. Work is performed outdoors and in all types of weather conditions.

Seasonal Job Duration: Up to six months from April 15 – October 15, 2024, both full-time and part-time shifts are available.

Call for Vendors: Apply now for the Renton Farmer’s Market Season!

The Renton Farmer’s Market is looking for local farmers, food producers, prepared food vendors, and crafters/artisans to join the city for its 23rd season each Tuesday, from June through September, in downtown Renton at Piazza Park. 

Last year, the Renton Farmers Market served almost 40,000 shoppers with $620,000 in vendor sales. The market is a great place to encourage residents to shop locally and support small businesses while educating and advertising through familiarity weekly. 

Types of vendors allowed at RFM: 

  • FARMERS raise produce, plants or botanicals, or animals on land they own, lease or rent, in the State of Washington. 
  • PROCESSORS sell foods that they have personally prepared or processed on property that they own, lease, or rent in the State of Washington. 
  • PREPARED FOOD VENDORS offer freshly made foods, available for sale and immediate consumption on-site. New applicants please review: Food Business Permits 
  • ARTISANS/CRAFTERS is one who creates with their own hands the products they offer for sale, or providers of skilled craft services at the market, such as on-site knife sharpening or tool refurbishment. To qualify as an Artisan/Crafter, a majority of the tools and equipment used to produce their products must require skill, personal handling and/or manipulation, including second-hand items that are recycled, re-purposed and/or skillfully and creatively refurbished for new or improved use. Products must be created in Washington State only.

Public Health - Seattle and King County's Bike Safety Grant Request for Applications is now open! 

Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC) aims to increase bicycle safety among residents of King County. To that end, the PHSKC Violence & Injury Prevention Unit, with funding from the King County Council, is seeking to fund education and/or outreach projects from coalitions, non-profits, schools, business, bicycling clubs, and other groups who wish to make progress toward this broad goal. 

Grant Requirements:   

Public Health – Seattle & King County has $40,000 to fund up to 10 community bicycle safety grants.  Grants may be funded for $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, $15,000, or $20,000 for calendar year 2024. Grants must fund education or outreach programs or projects.  

Priority populations and regions include:  

  • Underrepresented on bicycles – non‐white, youth, females, low‐income, people living unsheltered, people with disabilities, refugees, immigrants, members of the LGBTQ community  
  • Underserved communities – low‐income and/or People of Color living in South Seattle, South King County, and areas of Unincorporated King County  
  • Groups most impacted by poor outcomes as highlighted in the RFA documentation   

Through this opportunity, PHSKC is also seeking to foster new partnerships among groups in order to enhance robustness of projects and increase likelihood of sustained collaborations.  

Evaluators will also consider how the top‐scoring projects will represent King County as a whole and will be looking to fund a variety of different projects in terms of their scale, groups or communities impacted, and regions represented.

King County Elections Material is Now Available in Two New Languages! 

Your vote is your voice, no matter what language you speak. King County Elections now has voting materials available in Russian or Somali, in addition to Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese. 

All registered voters can sign up to receive their materials in their preferred language by going to kce.wiki/languages, calling KCE at 206-296-8683, or sending an email to elections@kingcounty.gov.
