Empowering women who power the economy
Each year, the King County Council hosts an educational panel discussion for Women’s History Month. This year, I am pleased to co-sponsor the event, along with my colleagues Councilmembers Sarah Perry and Teresa Mosqueda and the Legislative Branch Equity and Social Justice Team. You can join us on Thursday, March 21 from 11:15 AM to 12:45 PM in-person at the King County Chinook Building, Rooms 121/123 (401 5th Ave, Seattle) or at 11:30 via livesteam on King County TV.

ICYMI: Talking homelessness with Seattle Channel
From L to R: Jon Scholes from Downtown Seattle Association, Karen Lee from Plymouth Housing, Seattle Channel City Inside/Out Host Brian Callahan, and me
Last week, I joined Jon Scholes, President & CEO of the Downtown Seattle Association, and Karen Lee, CEO of Plymouth Housing, for an in-depth discussion about homelessness, the many complex and intersecting causes of homelessness, and the challenges we face as we try to implement solutions.
As I said during the discussion, if we really want to bring the number of people experiencing homelessness down, we need to scale up our response across the full spectrum of need, from interventions for people in crisis to emergency shelter to market-rate housing. Thank you to the Seattle Channel for organizing a thoughtful conversation about such a challenging topic!
How poetry connects us to the past
This Saturday, March 9, join the Redmond Historical Society to learn about poetry! Drop into the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center (16600 NE 80th St, Redmond) between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to write your very own poem about an item or photo on display, practicing a literary device known as ekphrasis.
Learn about Redmond’s history, view poems from their collection, and complete your own poem, with the option to submit it for display during National Poetry Month. Can’t make it on Saturday? This activity will be offered during the Redmond Historical Society’s regular open hours (Monday-Wednesday, 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM) through March 20.
Spread the word!
Please forward this email widely and invite others to sign-up to my email updates to receive important and timely information for District 6 constituents.
Sincerely,
