The King County Parks Teen Program supports and enhances active recreation opportunities and youth employment training to underserved and under resourced communities. This is an opportunity to work directly with youth, families, and community to develop partnerships to meet the needs of program participants in Skyway and White Center. Everyone on this team is here because they love working with and supporting park patrons in King County.
About the Role:
This Recreation Specialist position is responsible for providing safe and engaging recreational programs, supervision of assigned staff, community outreach, and support of office operations. Incumbents provide leadership to participants, direct the work of staff and volunteers, resolve challenging issues with customers and services provided, and recommend and coordinate methods to improve customer service and operations.
Key projects for this role:
- Developing, planning and coordinating youth and teen recreation programs in the White Center and Skyway communities.
- Assisting in recruiting, training and leading part-time employees, aides, and volunteers.
- Collaborating and engaging with community partners to support local neighborhood events and programs.
About the team:
The King County Parks Teen Program offers free recreational, educational, and social enrichment programming to over 1,400 participants ages 12-19 each year. The program provides structured recreational classes and programs, homework assistance, educational computer resources, leadership training, volunteer opportunities, special events, field trips, and drop-in activities. The program also provides youth with proactive conflict resolution strategies, health and wellness resources and referrals, and life skills and employment training. Programs are designed to strengthen development assets, a key prevention tool in helping youth develop strong personal coping skills and relationships.
