WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

Public Health – Seattle & King County is seeking to hire three (3) qualified Career Service, Part Time, 20 hrs/week  Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Breastfeeding Peer Counselors to help WIC mothers initiate and continue breastfeeding by providing basic evidence-supported information, encouragement, support, and by addressing barriers to breastfeeding.  
 

Peer Counselors reinforce breastfeeding recommendations in a socially and culturally appropriate context, and promote breastfeeding as an important element in the health development of the mother and baby. The incumbent will work with clients individually or in a group setting, utilizing client-centered skills and following the USDA's Loving Support Model.

Work Location:
Varied, throughout King County at Public Health and Community WIC sites.
 
Work Schedule: (REMOTE)

Monday - Saturday; Flexible, Nights and weekends - Hours will vary
As needed, the position may be deployed to other Public Health Centers and sites throughout King County and may be required to work outside of regular business hours which may include Saturday hours. This position is subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act and are overtime eligible.
 
The work associated with this position will be performed remotely. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.  Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite.  Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
