This position functions as Certified Peer Support Specialist (Peer Bridger) members of the King County Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization's (KCBH-ASO) Hospital and Mental Health Residential Unit. The incumbent will provide direct support for people who are currently hospitalized at Western State Hospital (WSH) and who are ready for transition to the community. The Peer Bridger will develop supportive relationships with the program participants prior to hospital discharge and support them up to 120 days post discharge, with the primary goal of connecting them with outpatient services and successfully reintegrating them back into their community. The Peer Bridger functions as a role model through sharing their own lived experience with behavioral health issues in a way that will inspire hope, encouragement and help to foster recovery and resiliency for the people they serve. The incumbent will provide trauma-informed, strengths-based services and supports.
This is a Term-Limited Temporary position anticipated to end in September 2025. If filled by a King County employee who has passed their initial probation, the TLT will be as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA).

WORK SCHEDULE/CONDITIONS: This is a Special Duty Assignment (SDA) or Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position anticipated to end September 2025 but subject to change dependent on operational need. This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. Flexibility may be required for occasional evening or weekend hours or travel. This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval. This position is not represented by a union.
MISSION CRITICAL POSITION STATUS: This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather. TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT: The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of teleworking complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations.
