The Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) section is seeking applicants for the position of Animal Shelter Manager. The RASKC team provides pet shelter and field services to 24 cities and unincorporated King County. Their services include pet adoption, responding to animal assistance calls in the field, pet licensing, and much more. The Animal Shelter Manager will play a vital role within the RASKC leadership team.
Scope of Job Duties: To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum demonstrate skill and ability to:
- Oversee, develop, and implement short and long-term strategic goals for the shelter’s planning, development, design, and operational processes; develop and recommend policies and procedures.
- Coordinate strategic planning and cooperative agreements with other animal shelters, animal rescues, and community representatives.
- Supervise, hire, and manage performance including corrective and disciplinary actions, plan for employee development, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Be responsible for developing and managing the program budget with the RASKC management team and Finance and Administrative Services Manager for the division.
- Develop volunteer and foster programs to increase animal enrichment, limit animal shelter stays, and address behavior issues in animals.
- Establish a behavior team which includes staff and volunteers, and execute behavior and enrichment plans to ensure the well-being of animals at the adoption center.
- Ensure compliance with DEA regulations regarding euthanasia drugs.
- Lead daily rounds and flow meetings with the clinical team, animal shelter administrator and program coordinator.
- Be the Subject Matter Expert for shelter operations and the primary contact for partners and Public Health inspections of the facility, ensuring RASKC is in compliance.
- Publish monthly shelter newsletters.
- Have experience supervising, leading, and or managing animal shelter employees and programs.
- Have experience in public relations and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of internal and external partners.
- Are able to deal with ambiguity and quickly make quality decisions.
- Can handle multiple competing priorities.
- Are skilled in using current software programs to perform word processing, spreadsheets, databases and emails software programs.
- Experience working in an animal shelter, working with volunteers, and a labor-represented workforce.
