Your Weekly Update on What's Happening at the King County Council

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Winter weather is fully upon us! Yesterday, lowlands across the region saw snow flurries for the first time this season. In the coming days, temperatures are expected to be very chilly, forecasted to not rise above the 20s.

If you are traveling through unincorporated King County this weekend, beware of the possibility of ice on the roadway—especially black ice, which occurs along wet roads and is hard to see. King County Road Services Division crews have been hard at work to treat unincorporated roads, and as of this morning, January 12, most of the road network in unincorporated King County is bare and, in some cases, frosty.

Road Services Division staff continue to watch the forecast closely and are ready to respond to evolving weather-related road conditions as needed throughout the 3-day weekend. Currently, maintenance teams are treating bare, dry roads in unincorporated King County with anti-icer. Equipment such as snow and ice treatment trucks and snowplows are at the ready, and materials such as anti-icer, salt and sand are replenished.

Meanwhile, here are a few resources for you to keep at the ready:

  • For the fastest updates on road conditions, sign up for road alerts or follow the King County Road Services Division on Twitter at @kcroads.
  • Get help with road maintenance and traffic safety issues by calling the 24/7 Road Helpline at 206-477-8100 or 1-800-527-6237.
  • In the case of a power outage, please call Puget Sound Energy at 1-888-225-5773. You also can report the outage online and check PSE’s map of outages.

Thank you to our Road Services Division crews for all your work on our behalf!

Stay safe out there!

All my best,
