King County Council Review of 2024 Comprehensive Plan
Thank you for your interest in the King County Comprehensive Plan. On December 7, 2023, the King County Executive transmitted to the King County Council the proposed 2024 King County Comprehensive Plan. The package includes three proposed ordinances: The 2024 Comprehensive Plan is Proposed Ordinance 2023-0440; changes to the Countywide Planning Policies are shown in Proposed Ordinance 2023-0438; the Snoqualmie Valley/Northeast King County Subarea Plan is shown in Proposed Ordinance 2023-0439.
Council Review Process
The legislation has been referred to the Local Services and Land Use Committee for review over the next several months for potential amendment and recommendation, with final adoption by the full Council anticipated in December 2024. Information on how to participate in Committee meetings is available on the Committee website.
Information about the Council’s review of the proposal can be found on the 2024 Comprehensive Plan website (note that the website looks different than it has in the past!). This website will be periodically updated as new information and materials become available. News, schedule updates, public comment opportunities, meeting materials, and public notices related to the 2024 Comprehensive Plan will also be distributed to this email list throughout the process.
Public Comment
The schedule for the Council's review of the 2024 Comprehensive Plan includes many opportunities for public comment, through Zoom, in person, and email. In January 2024, the Committee will hold:
- A regular meeting on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 9:30am, to hear a briefing on the Snoqualmie Valley/Northeast King County Subarea Plan, the proposed map amendments, and the work of the Equity Work Group did to help the Executive develop the plan. Remote, in-person, and written comments will be accepted
- A special meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2024, to hold a public hearing on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) issued by the Executive on December 7, 2023. Remote, in-person, and written comments will be accepted, on the Draft EIS and the 2024 Comprehensive Plan. The doors will open at 6:00pm for this meeting and staff will be available to provide information and ask questions.
