By a unanimous vote Thursday afternoon, the Sound Transit Board of Directors approved my proposal to move forward on launching the East Link light rail Starter Line in March 2024.
Almost exactly one year ago, when we first learned that East Link light rail would be significantly delayed due to workmanship issues on the I-90 bridge, I proposed that we open an Eastside-only starter line. The plan will open Eastside-only service in advance of full East Link light rail line completion, taking advantage of the fully completed light rail segment and allowing trains to run from South Bellevue, through Downtown Bellevue, the hospital district, Spring District and into Redmond.
The Board’s unanimous decision to approve the Starter Line represents a major pivot from a long-established plan and adapts to changing circumstances. It’s a testament to hard work, creativity and nimble action by agency staff, as well as the overwhelming enthusiasm by cities and community members from across the Eastside who know how transformational these generational transit opportunities will be and how important it is to open them ASAP. THANK YOU to all who voiced your support for this major Eastside transportation priority.

Seattle Community Cricket Day with the Seattle Thunderbolts
Our region has seen a dramatic increase in interest in cricket, which has long been one of the most popular sports in the world. I have been working with community advocates to site a cricket pitch at Mayrmoor Park so more people can enjoy the exciting game. While these efforts continue, our very own Minor League Cricket team, the Seattle Thunderbolts, are already putting King County on the cricket map as the defending US Minor League champions.
This Saturday from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, the Thunderbolts will face the East Bay Blazers at Tollgate Farm Park in North Bend and are inviting the community to join them for a special Cricket Community Day. This celebration of sportsmanship and community will include cricket clinics, children’s activities, and awards and prizes. Whether you’re new to the game or a longtime fan, this will be a fun and exciting day!
