Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This weekend, wildfire smoke blanketed our region, leaving the Seattle/King County region with some of the worst air quality in the world according to IQair.com. Smoke-filled air can be hazardous to health, especially with longer lengths of exposure. Offshore breezes and marine winds are expected to clear out some of this smoke as the day progresses, but several large wildfires are still burning east of the Cascades and into Canada, and you can access a map of current wildfires here. And, tragically, there’s been loss of life, homes, and communities. To track these impacts across the state as well as the response, check out the Washington Department of Natural Resources website and Twitter page.
In the meantime, take care to stay indoors as much as possible, limit vigorous activity, and keep indoor air clean. Babies, children, adults over the age of 65, individuals with underlying health conditions, and pregnant people should be especially careful as they may be extra sensitive to the smoke. For those without homes, libraries and the Seattle Center Armory are open regular hours and may provide some relief.
