EXTENDED - FULL ROAD CLOSURE - July 17-August 25: NE Woodinville Duvall Road at NE 172nd Street

EXTENDED - Full road closure - July 17 through Aug. 25

Culvert replacement work will temporarily close NE Woodinville Duvall Road at NE 172nd Street

Road Services needs to extend the full road closure on NE Woodinville Duvall Road at NE 172nd Street from 30 days to 40 days.

The road will now reopen at 11:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25.

What happened (reasons why the extension is needed)

The existing culvert is very old and was installed before the county kept records that would have provided more information about how the culvert was built. We assumed it was metal, but in this case, it was unexpectedly encased in three feet of reinforced concrete, which required different equipment and more time to remove. The delay in excavation also pushed out the date when we could schedule the large construction crane crews need to install the new concrete box culvert (cranes are in high demand and rescheduling them adds several extra days).

NE Woodinville Duvall Road will continue to be local access only between W. Snoqualmie Valley Road and NE 172nd Street, and between Avondale Road NE and NE Old Woodinville Duvall Road during the closure.

All vehicles, including emergency responders, will be detoured south to NE Novelty Hill Road during construction.

Please plan for potential lengthy traffic delays throughout Cottage Lake, Redmond Ridge, Bear Creek, English Hill, and Novelty Hill.

A full closure is needed to replace a failing, rusted metal pipe culvert with a new concrete box culvert. NE Woodinville Duvall Road is too narrow to provide a bypass lane, and the steep slope prevents us from building a temporary bridge. It will now take approximately 40 days to remove the old pipe and install the new box culvert under the road. Crews will reopen NE Woodinville Duvall Road once the new culvert is installed.
