Celebrate the bounty of summer with King County’s first Eat Local Month
August will be King County’s first Eat Local Month, a celebration of the abundance of local food available in the county, presented by Tilth Alliance with support from the King Conservation District.
King County produces over $135 million in agricultural products each year. From heritage varieties of blueberries to pasture-raised beef to fresh greens, there is something delicious for everyone at the county’s 41 farmers markets and dozens of locally-sourced markets and restaurants.
King County awarded USDA funding to support underrepresented farmers
King County was recently awarded $2.5 million to help improve access to land, capital, and markets for underserved farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners. King County is one of 50 award recipients nationwide and the funding willenable King County tocreate a more comprehensive approach to land access, technical support, and farm program educationthat addresses the unique needs of immigrants, refugees, and communities of color.
Explore King County’s 41 farmers markets during National Farmers Market Week August 6 - 12
Farmers markets across King County are at their most vibrant as we head into the last push of summer and then fall harvest season. This is prime time for vegetable variety and summer’s finest produce. Farmers Market Week, Aug. 6-12, is a great reason to get to a market and support local farmers and growers.

CHOMP! returns Saturday, August 19 at King County’s Marymoor Park for a free outdoor celebration of local food, live music, sustainability resources, and activities for the whole family. Meet local farmers, community organizations, and musicians as we celebrate what makes King County great.
Music Lineup: Blind Boys of Alabama, Cedric Burnside, Stephanie Anne Johnson, Alessandra Rose, NW Kung Fu Lion Dance, and Mikey The Rad Scientist.
Programs and Activities include: Farmers Market, Local Food Vendors, Petting Zoo, Zucchini Races, An Upcycle Bazaar and a number of activities supporting local food and sustainability in King County.

King Conservation District is partnering with Cardea Services to evaluate the Regional Food System Grant Program. The Regional Food System Grant Program supports projects that contribute to the economic viability of local farmers, encourage new farmers, expand acreage in food production, improve food access, and increase demand for King County farm products.
