Your Weekly Update on What's Happening at the King County Council

This weekend is your last chance to attend one of my favorite local summer events: the King County Fair!

The oldest fair west of the Mississippi River, the King County Fair was founded in 1863, when Abraham Lincoln was president. Now in its 160^th year, the Fair offers carnival rides, delicious food, a rodeo, a barrel race, and much more! If you are looking for fun, family-friendly entertainment this weekend, I encourage you to check it out. You can find more information here.

Keep an eye on your mailbox—Primary Election ballots are arriving!

Be on the lookout! Ballots for the upcoming August 1, 2023 Primary were mailed earlier this week and are arriving in voters' mailboxes.

The Primary election ballot will feature 174 candidates across 46 races and seven ballot measures. Voters’ pamphlets, featuring statements from each candidate and about each measure, have already been mailed. You can also access a personalized voters’ guide on My Voter Information.

If you do not receive your ballot by the end of the day on July 17th, reach out to King County Elections at 206-296-VOTE (8683).

Starting Sunday, more King County Libraries in District 9 will be open longer

Starting Sunday, July 16, the following libraries in District 9 will have longer open hours. Visit the links below to check out opening hours for each library location:

• Newcastle
• Renton 
• Renton Highlands

In addition, the Fairwood library will reopen tomorrow, Saturday, July 15, after being closed due to vandalism and theft.

Swim beach closed at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park

Due to high bacteria levels at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, Public Health has closed the swim beach until further notice. For your safety, please follow directions on all posted signs.

Vets Engaged grants

Vets Engaged awards small grants for entities to convene community-building events and networks that increase social connection for veterans, military servicemembers, their respective families and other non-veterans in King County.  The program strives to reduce veterans' feelings of isolation by providing opportunities for them and their families to socialize with other non-veterans; to address inequities faced by veterans; and to creatively build community.

Applications are due at 5pm on Wednesday, July 19. Find more information at the Vets Engaged website.
