Recognizing our 2023 MLK Medal of Distinguished Service Award Recipient!
June 2023
Dear Friend,
Chairman de los Angeles is a leader deeply committed to serving both the members of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe and members of the communities around him. He was born in Seattle and raised in Woodinville on the family farm surrounded by loving family and community, and after high school he joined the US Army, where he served for several years. Chairman de los Angeles has spent decades working to protect and uphold the sovereign rights of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe and continually works to increase the Tribe’s presence, both locally and nationally.
Chairman de los Angeles truly championed the COVID recovery response partnering with Eastside Fire & Rescue to provide over 40,000 shots to residents throughout the Snoqualmie Valley, Issaquah and Sammamish making sure we were all as healthy throughout the pandemic as possible. He has been instrumental in fostering connections and collaborations that span our region, and we are grateful to him for all he has done. Please join me in congratulating Chairman de los Angeles on this recognition and thanking him for his service!
As always, if you’d like to meet or talk about anything, please reach out by email, sarah.perry@kingcounty.gov, or phone at 206-477-1003, and we’ll find some time to connect!

Celebrating June Proclamations and Holidays!
|
June has brought so many celebrations along with some time for reflection. This month we celebrated LGBTQ stories and voices during Pride Month, while providing time to honor the progress in the fight for full equality for LGBTQ residents and their families across King County. We also recognized Juneteenth, a day to celebrate the experiences of Black Americans while recognizing the emancipation of enslaved Americans in the US. As we welcome the progress we have made, let’s look ahead to the work that is still to do to ensure that equity and justice for all are our guiding principles for King County and our country. I am grateful and humbled that my friend, the Reverend, Doctor Linda Mae Smith, joined us to receive the proclamation and to share a few words! Finally, just a few days ago, our Muslim community members celebrated Eid, a day of celebration for over 1.8 billion Muslims, marking the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. With so much going on in the world, it’s important for us to take a step back and reflect on all the good in our communities!
Out in the Community!
(Left): We joined the Eastrail Partnership and King County Parks as we walked across the the i90 Trail Section in Bellevue; (Right): At the Snoqualmie Library enjoying their boat exhibit for the kiddos!
(Left): Celebrating a Pride Picnic with local community members in Carnation; (Right) We visited Ella Baker Elementary to share the importance of civic engagement with a group of 3rd graders.

Make Your Voice Heard on the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update!
King County’s once-a-decade update to its Comprehensive Plan is underway, a key policy document that guides how growth and development will occur over the next 20 years. It guides County decisions and services such as:

How roads and buildings contribute to the look and feel of neighborhoods
-
Investments in transit, sewers, and parks
-
Protection of working farms and forests
