Summer officially started this week, and that means Big Backyard Movies are back! Gather your family and friends, grab some low-backed chairs and blankets, and get ready to enjoy a movie under the stars. This year, King County Parks is inviting local food trucks as well!

King County receives Secretary of Defense Freedom Award for support of National Guard and Reserve

I am very proud that King County has been honored with a 2023 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve—one of whom is my Legislative Aide, Jack Ipsen.

As employers, it's important to recognize that members of our military provide us with invaluable skills and experience as employees. I am passionate about expanding the ways we care for our veterans and servicemembers, including through Vets4Hire, a King County program I helped create. 

Congratulations to King County government for this recognition of being an exceptional employer for Guard and Reserve employees!

June 27: Virtual flood preparedness workshop

Councilmember Reagan Dunn visits the Cedar River Riverbend flood control project with King County staff.

You're invited to attend a virtual workshop on Tuesday, June 27, 6:30 - 8 PM to learn more about how to prepare for flooding.

Participants will learn about local flood risks and free or low-cost resources for family and community preparedness. They will also have the opportunity to share ideas that will shape how the county manages flood risks for people, homes, businesses, and roads in unincorporated areas. Register online here.

Reminder: Fireworks are now banned in unincorporated King County

This Fourth of July weekend will be the second year that the use and sale of consumer fireworks is illegal in unincorporated King County. For more information on the ban, see this 2021 blog post from the Department of Local Services.

Please be aware that this year, the Department of Local Services will begin issuing citations for those who violate the fireworks ban.
