Since Sound Transit announced delays to a full opening of East Link light rail in summer 2022, I’ve championed the possibility of an early opening for an East Link Starter Line connecting Redmond to Bellevue while work continues to complete the light rail connection between South Bellevue and Seattle. Over the past few months, Sound Transit staff have diligently explored the concept and yesterday the Sound Transit Board of Directors took a critical next step by a vote of 16-1 to fund additional planning, design, and construction activities necessary to further develop the East Link Starter Line option for a potential spring 2024 opening.
In addition, the work funded by Thursday’s vote will give the Sound Transit Board the necessary data and information to make its final East Link Starter Line go-no-go decision in fall 2023.
I’m heartened to hear how much support exists for the Starter Line from community members, businesses, and Eastside cities. It’s clear that as the Eastside grows, we need great transit ASAP. And we're not alone; we also must commit to expediting light rail and bus rapid transit service to Snohomish County, South King County and Pierce County.

Feedback needed for King County Regional Homelessness Authority’s 5-year plan
Homelessness is one of the most difficult crises our region is facing, and the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) is taking on the coordination, funding, and policy for our regional homeless response services. Last week, KCRHA released a draft Five Year Plan to guide its work through 2028 and they are seeking public input. As a KCRHA Governing Committee member, it’s important to me to hear from the public before we vote on the plan. You can read the full plan and submit your feedback through a survey until February 8:
