Councilmember Reagan Dunn stands with his King County Council colleagues and human trafficking awareness leaders during this week's Council meeting.
It was an honor to be joined today by Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles and the rest of my colleagues on the King County Council as we proclaimed January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in King County, shedding light on a horrific crime that is an assault on human dignity and liberty.
By learning to see and report the occurrences of human trafficking that happens all around us, every person can help stop human trafficking and bring help to victims and survivors. If you are being trafficked, or have witnessed possible signs of human trafficking, you can call the National Human Trafficking Hotline anytime for help: 1-888-373-7888.
This week the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) released their five-year plan which details how much they believe it would cost to end homelessness in King County. The price quote for this plan totaled nearly $12 billion.
This jaw-dropping price tag will still fall short until we take seriously the need to instead prioritize funding from behavioral health facilities like Western State Hospital, more inpatient and outpatient drug rehabilitation programs, and behavioral health crisis care centers being considered by King County right now.
Read more about my response to this price tag and KCRHA five-year plan here.
Blood supplies in our area are at a critically low level, creating an immediate need for donors. Donations are essential for patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, blood disorder treatments, childbirth complications and other serious conditions and injuries. Most people 18 and older who are in good health and weigh 110 pounds or more can donate blood.
Find a location to donate blood near you by visiting: Blood Supply | Washington State Department of Health
