Your Weekly Update on What's Happening at the King County Council  

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The King County Council convenes for the first time in 2023 this coming Tuesday, January 10th, after a short recess. I look forward to getting back to work! 

This year, I'm honored to serve another term as Vice Chair of the Council. I'll also be sitting on the following committees: Local Services and Land Use; Law, Justice, Health and Human Services; Regional Water Quality; and Committee of the Whole, in addition to serving as Chair of the King County Flood Control District Board of Supervisors. For more information on these committees, the work we're doing, and how to attend a meeting or provide public comment, please visit the Council's website.

Join us as we break ground on the next stage of the Foothills Trail

After many years of collaborative work and planning, the Foothills Trail Segment B project is breaking ground! Soon, a bridge over the White River will connect 22 miles of trail by linking the existing Foothills Trail in Enumclaw with the trail in the City of Buckley. 

To celebrate, on Wednesday, January 18th, from 3-4 PM, King County Parks will host a groundbreaking ceremony, and anyone is welcome to attend. RSVP today for event details.

Green to Cedar Rivers Trail

Design is underway for the new segment of the Green to Cedar Rivers Trail that, when complete, will connect the trail to Black Diamond Open Space!  I am pleased to have worked with the community on getting this project approved and want to share this opportunity to give further feedback.

King County 2024 Conservation Futures Grants

Conservation Futures grants can help acquire parks and open spaces for passive recreation such as urban greenspaces, natural areas, forests, community gardens, farms, and trails. There may be opportunities to partner on green stormwater park acquisitions, or help create open space or community gardens near affordable housing developments.

Applications are due on Monday, March 6^th, 2023. Visit the Conservation Futures application webpage for more information.
