#KingCountyGoesPurple
As National Recovery Month comes to an end, I want to close our celebration with a note of thanks. I am so grateful for the dedication of the service providers and community members who do the work that makes recovery in all its forms possible.
I hope that when you see the color purple in September, you will remember and celebrate the over 20 million Americans who are in recovery across the nation!
Creating a Community-Based Stop Hate Hotline and Online Reporting Portal
Councilmember Reagan Dunn testifying at Tuesday's King County Council meeting.
This past Tuesday, the King County Council unanimously approved legislation I sponsored that creates a new community-based Stop Hate Hotline and online portal that will expand reporting access for victims of hate crimes. I am grateful to my colleagues for their support! Without boosting reporting rates, we only allow crimes of hate and bias to proliferate — and no one in King County should live in threat of retaliation or even danger due to their race, religion, beliefs, appearance, or any other differences that exist among us.
A plan for the new reporting system is due to the King County Council by May 2, 2023. As this develops, I will be sure to keep you updated!
Supporting Our Local Food Banks
Councilmember Reagan Dunn helping Covington Mayor Jeff Wagner and community members distribute food with the Covington Storehouse
As record level inflation rates have more people looking for help to feed their families, I have been hearing from food banks across King County that they are overwhelmed by the need they are seeing. To assist our local food banks with meeting this great need, this week the King County Council voted to approve a proposal I sponsored to start identifying all possible ways, such as through grants or volunteer recruitment, we can support those organizations working at the frontlines of food insecurity.
Thank you to all our King County food banks for their incredible work feeding our families and communities!
