Your Weekly King County Council and District 9 Update

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This Sunday, September 18th, I’m looking forward to attending the IRONMAN 70.3 Washington triathlon at Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley! The race consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a 26.22-mile run. Not only does hosting this event allow us to highlight the beauty of our region for all the athletes and spectators it brings, but it also offers a big economic boost to our local businesses.

Any event like IRONMAN can only happen through the collective efforts of our community. They still need volunteers to help out this weekend, so if you're interested, please visit the IRONMAN website to sign up!

Reagan Dunn King County Councilmember District 9

For this week's "Dunn in the District" highlight, I want to introduce Newcastle’s new City Manager, Scott Pingel! The role of a City Manager is critical to the municipality. They are tasked with the day-to-day operations of city administration and implementing the policy direction of the Mayor and City Council. From managing city departments to executing initiatives large and small, they are the backbone of city government. Scott Pingel comes to Newcastle from Fircrest, Washington, with years of experience in various cities across the Pacific Northwest. I look forward to working with him on issues that are important to Newcastle. Welcome to the community, Scott!

A King County Council Update

A delegation of the King County Council, including myself, is traveling to Washington, D.C. next week to advocate on issues that matter most to King County. I am honored to be able to be a part of a unified voice as I represent our community before Congress and the Federal government. Please reach out if there is a specific federal issues you would like me to address in the other Washington. You can reach me at reagan.dunn@kingcounty.gov. You should also be aware that the majority of our Council and Committee meetings for next week are canceled while Councilmembers are in D.C. We’ll continue our regularly scheduled meetings on September 27th.

September 18th, 2022 - IRONMAN 70.3 Washington!  

IRONMAN 70.3 Washington returns this year to Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley. I hope to see you there as we cheer on the athletes as they race to the finish line! There'll be plenty to do and see, including food trucks and exploring Lake Wilderness Park. Last Call: Healthy Communities & Parks Fund

The Healthy Community and Parks Fund provides grants to projects and programs that provide new, increased, or enhanced access to recreation, parks, and open space in underserved communities, including investing in capacity-building for community groups. Program goals include reducing disparities and improving the health and well-being of King County residents in marginalized communities by increasing access to recreation, parks, and open space.

Applications are due September 18, 2022.
