Upcoming tree work and ballfield improvements

Tree work and improvements to Big Finn Hill ballfields are taking place this fall and winter.

The rest of Big Finn Hill Park and parking lot will be open throughout construction. Existing September ballfield reservations will be unaffected.

September 2022 Tree Work:
Four cottonwoods will be removed, and two cottonwoods and one alder will be pruned September 13-16, 2022, bordering Ballfield #1 in Big Finn Hill Park for safety purposes. These cottonwoods slowly grew into the area after the ballfields were built in the 1980s. Cottonwoods drop limbs as they age; removing and pruning back these trees will help prevent large limbs from falling on park users and prevent damage to ballfield safety fencing. There may be additional tree work taking place in October 2022.

Ballfield Improvements:
During the regular seasonal closures of the Big Finn Hill Ballfields, ballfields 1, 2 & 3 will undergo repairs November 2022 – mid-January 2023. Construction will take place Monday – Friday, 7 a.m.  5 p.m. The ballfields will reopen for their regular season on March 1, 2023.

Repair work includes replacing fencing along the dugouts and exterior perimeters, as well as asphalt repair and some grass replanting.
