Earlier this spring, the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) partnered with community groups across King County to host a series of Community Conversations to receive feedback on the VSHSL. Each VSHSL Community Conversation sought to spread awareness about VSHSL resources, gather community input on how levy programming is going, discuss what parts of the VSHSL may need improvement going forward, and how a renewed VSHSL could make the biggest impact in the community.
Here's what we learned from your feedback. We still want to hear from you. If you were unable to participate in the Community Conversations or have more feedback to share, please reach out to us at VSHSL@kingcounty.gov to share.
The VSHSL team has added more free trainings for VSHSL-funded providers!

A new funding opportunity is available from the VSHSL to fund one-time hiring and retention bonuses to nonprofit human services providers who currently receive funding through the VSHSL.
VSHSL-funded partners provide a range of services from food support, social engagement programs for seniors, eviction prevention services, caregiver respite supports, benefits eligibility assessment, and gender-based violence prevention programs, among many others. Many of these nonprofit and human services partners faced high turnover and staffing shortages prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these programs and their staff were deemed essential workers during the pandemic, which brought increased pressures and responsibilities. VSHSL human services contract partners have reported losing staff at an unsustainable rate and finding it hard to hire and retain qualified staff to keep programs open. This hiring and retention bonus program is intended to help partners support and retain their workers by compensating them for the added responsibilities they have incurred.
