Dunn Crowns WallE the Horse as This Year's ‘King Critter’ at the King County Fair
Councilmember Dunn with WallE and his owner Nikiah Moss
Yesterday, I had the honor of crowning Lots of Prayers (AKA WallE) the horse as “King Critter” during the King County Fair opening ceremony. Many congratulations to WallE and his owner Nikiah Moss!
The Fair is a special, long-standing tradition here in King County, and is one of my all-time favorite events of the year! For more information, visit their website at: https://www.enumclawexpo.com/p/king-county-fair.
King County Crews Clear 26 Tons of Trash from Green River Encampment
King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn and King County Sheriff’s Deputies walk through the Green River encampment.
Earlier this week, King County crews cleared nearly 26 tons of garbage from the Green River homeless encampment in an unincorporated area outside of Kent. This trash and debris had accumulated to the extent that it was interfering with rights-of-way on the road.
This cleanup is a good first step — but there is more to be done to fully address the sprawling string of homeless encampments in this area, connect more individuals experiencing homelessness with the services they need to get their life back on track, and maintain the safety and security of the surrounding neighborhoods. This is an important task, and one that I will continue to focus on.
Dunn Proposes New Community-Led Program to Monitor, Prevent Crime
Today I introduced legislation that would create a pilot program that would enable neighborhoods to create community groups to monitor and prevent criminal activity.
Dubbed the Neighborhood Engagement Pilot Program, this program would give communities the opportunity to work with the Sheriff’s Office to take the lead on reducing crime in their neighborhoods. In addition to allowing folks to participate in their own safety and build relationships with local law enforcement, this would be an inexpensive effort that has already been proven to be effective in lowering crime.
