This Tuesday, for the first time since March 2020, we opened the Council Chambers in the King County Courthouse and I Chaired the Council meeting in person. This was our first hybrid meeting where some members of the public and Councilmembers were in the Chambers and some joined remotely.
This new format allows us to take advantage of the best of both worlds. Members of the public don’t have to travel to downtown Seattle in the middle of the day to participate in their government and Councilmembers can spend more time in their districts working with their constituents. But we all have the option to sit together in Chambers to do the public’s business. It was great to see my colleagues gathered together again and I’m looking forward to this new way of working.
We value hearing from constituents at our meetings and if you’d like to provide public comment, you can use Zoom, call in on the telephone, or come down to the Courthouse in person. The details are on every Council agenda, which can be found here:
A huge thank you to the Council and King County TV staff whose tech savvy, persistence and creativity were essential to our success.
Building culture brick by brick
4Culture provides funding and support for the arts, science and heritage programs that make King County vibrant and improve our residents’ quality of life. One of its latest initiatives aims to break down barriers for communities that have historically faced obstacles to creating gathering spaces and buildings for arts and culture.

One opportunity to join the celebration is at Centro Cultural Mexicano’s Rainbow on the Eastside Artist’s Reception next Thursday. Centro Cultural Mexicano's exhibition of LGBTQ artists from the Eastside will be on display through June 30.
