Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Today is Earth Day, and I find myself reflecting on how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful region. This blessing is also a responsibility—one that requires that we are good stewards of the natural world around us and take care to protect and conserve our environment.
It was incredibly impactful for me to grow up exploring the great outdoors with my brother and my mom, the late Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn—an experience that inspired me to work on issues such as urging Congress to designate the Mountains to Sound Greenway as a National Heritage Area; improving conditions and preserving critical habitat for our salmon populations; pushing for reducing the environmental impacts of infrastructure such as our wastewater treatment plants and the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill; fighting against the proposed asphalt plant near the Cedar River; and continuing to work to conserve forestland, open space, and recreational areas here in King County.

With the sunshine that is forecasted for this weekend, I encourage you to take some time to explore a King County trail or park near you. In addition, you can visit King County’s 2022 Earth Day webpage to find eco-friendly tips, volunteer opportunities, and more.
Happy Earth Day!
