Important Update on the Search for a New King County Sheriff

Your Update on What's Happening at the King County Council  

Dear Friends and Neighbors, 

I have an important update to share regarding King County's ongoing search for a new King County Sheriff. 

As you may recall, in November 2020, voters approved Charter Amendment 5, which changed the King County Sheriff from an elected position to an appointed position.

Yesterday, Executive Dow Constantine announced his three candidates for the appointment: Patti Cole-Tindall, Interim Sheriff at the King County Sheriff’s Office;
Charles Kimble, Chief of Police at the Killeen, Texas Police Department; and 
Reginald Moorman, Major at the Atlanta, Georgia Police Department. You can review each of the candidates' bios here. 

King County has scheduled two virtual public forums to allow you to hear from the candidates, provide input, and ask any questions:

Dunn, Dembowski Legislation to Support Ukraine Unanimously Approved in Committee

Councilmember Reagan Dunn speaks in support of his motion to support Ukraine

This week, the Committee of the Whole unanimously approved legislation I co-sponsored with Councilmember Dembowski that aims to help and support Ukraine and its people here locally.

As the situation continues to devolve in Ukraine, it remains imperative that we persist against Vladimir Putin’s intolerable threat to democracy. I am grateful for the way we are coming together here at King County to make sure we are doing everything we can to help the Ukrainian people as they fight for their freedom and their lives.

I will continue to keep you updated on this legislation as it is sent to the full King County Council for a final vote.

Dunn Proposes Study On The Effects Of Regulation On The Rental Market In King County

In the wake of new regulations on rental housing approved by the King County Council last June, Apartment List recently released a study showing double-digit increases in the cost of rent within multiple cities within King County. 

This is why I am proposing that King County study the effects of government regulation on the cost of rent and availability of rental housing in unincorporated King County. My fear is that the slate of recent government interventions is hurting renters by reducing our affordable rental housing supply and increasing costs. This study would help policymakers understand the impact of these regulations on housing market dynamics and on the folks who rely on a healthy supply of rental properties.
