One of the great parts about serving as your County Councilmember is when I get to hear about your priorities and about what we can do to make our neighborhoods, cities and towns of District 6 even better places to live, work and play. I wanted to report back to you on two recent opportunities I had to listen to you:
Town hall in Redmond: Thank you to everyone who attended my joint town hall with Councilmember Sarah Perry on Tuesday. We had about 40 people join us for a conversation about behavioral health, housing and homelessness, parks, and more. A big thanks to the staff at Muslim Association of Puget Sound for their warm and gracious hospitality, to Redmond Mayor Angela Birney for her kind introduction, and to Councilmember Perry for her partnership in putting the event together.
District 6 priorities survey: Thanks so much to the 878 people who spent the time to take the District 6 2022 priorities survey. The survey gives me some insights into what you are thinking about priorities for COVID funding, public safety, affordable housing and climate change. We have prepared a short summary of the survey results to share. In addition, we received over 1,000 comments to the open questions, and we are still sorting through them all.
You can always contact me anytime at Claudia.Balducci@kingcounty.gov if you want to share your thoughts or ideas.
Salmon Safe King County Parks
Click on the image above to watch King County's Salmon Safe video
King County Parks is the largest park system in the nation to earn Salmon-Safe certification after a rigorous evaluation concluded that its operations and practices protect downstream water quality and benefit threatened salmon species. The certification shows how King County Parks – a steward of more than 200 parks, 175 miles of regional trails, 215 miles of backcountry trails, and 30,000 acres of open space – contributes to protecting our rivers and streams.
Salmon-Safe experts were particularly impressed by the progress King County Parks has made installing green stormwater infrastructure to reduce the amount of polluted runoff. They also noted the agency’s ability to improve ecological functions of the land it acquires, which includes former homes and farmland.
Great work, King County Parks!
Over 50? You can get your second booster
Earlier this week the FDA and CDC announced that people aged 50 and older and certain immunocompromised individuals can now get a second booster dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least four months after receiving their initial booster dose. According to the Washington State Department of Health, the updated booster recommendations also include:
- Everyone 12 and older should receive a booster dose five months after completing their two-dose vaccine series of Pfizer or Moderna, or two months after receiving the single-shot Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine
- Individuals 12 and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised can receive a second booster dose four months after receiving their first booster dose
- Those 18 and older who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of the J&J vaccine four months ago can receive a second booster dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine
Are you ready to get your COVID-19 booster? Drop-ins for booster shots are welcome at the Auburn Outlet Mall, Eastgate, and Kent Public Health clinics and partner sites throughout the county, and same-day appointments are also available. You can find a clinic or pharmacy near you by visiting www.kingcounty.gov/vaccine or the Washington Vaccine Locator at https://vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov.
