As your representative on the King County Council, I want to know what you think about the big issues facing King County and the Puget Sound region, such as COVID recovery, housing, climate, transit, and law enforcement. Please take my survey and share your priorities for 2022. It’s short and should take you less than five minutes to complete. Thanks!

What do a golden duck, a nightwatchman, and a stump have in common?
They're all cricket terms! In King County, we are seeing growing enthusiasm for cricket, which is one of the most loved sports in the world. In particular, East King County is home to many cricket fans and players. This week, the King County Council passed a motion I sponsored, at the request of community members, supporting the development of a cricket community park in Marymoor Park. Along with similar motions passed by the cities of Bellevue and Redmond, this is an exciting step towards building a cricket community park in our region.
This would be a world-class facility that would host amateur youth and adult cricket matches, along with professional cricket matches and other community events. With all of the amenities Marymoor has to offer, including the upcoming opening of a light rail station, it would be a perfect place to bring this internationally-enjoyed sport to our community. I am excited to work with the community and our city partners to explore whether we can bring the joy of cricket to Marymoor and the Eastside.
Let's move Washington ahead
Yesterday, the Puget Sound Regional Council, where I currently serve as President, passed a motion supporting the Move Ahead Washington transportation proposal, which is currently being considered by the state legislature and would invest $16 billion over 16 years in transportation infrastructure and services across the state. The proposal includes a record $3 billion for transit and $1.3 billion for bike and pedestrian infrastructure.
I got to walk the Wilburton Trestle, which will be part of the Eastrail, a critical piece of bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure in my district
Here in King County, we have been working for years on creating a comprehensive transportation system, including bus, light rail, bike lanes, and a trail system. These transportation investments would help us build a system that allows people to safely and efficiently travel throughout the county without having to rely on a car.
Standing with Ukraine
As the world watches the Russian invasion of Ukraine, my thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and the many Ukrainians who call Washington state home. Over the years, I have enjoyed participating in the annual Ukrainian day of celebration festival. When it was in person, I attended the festival along with several thousand people at Crossroads in Bellevue. It was an opportunity to celebrate Ukraine’s rich culture and history and meet many of our Ukrainian neighbors. Immigrants from Ukraine make up one in every five European-born residents in Washington and help make our state a vibrant place to live. I wish for a swift resolution to the war and a return to peace and safety for Ukraine.
