This coming Tuesday is the last day to make your voice heard in two important elections:
1. February 2022 special election. School levies for Bellevue, Lake Washington and Mercer Island School Districts are up for your consideration. If your ballot hasn’t arrived yet, give King County Elections a call at 206.296.VOTE (8683).
2. King Conservation District Board of Supervisors. The King Conservation District (KCD) is a special purpose district, funded by you, with a mission to promote the sustainable use of natural resources through responsible stewardship in King County. Like two years ago, the KCD election will primarily rely on electronic ballots, with alternative options for printing and mailing in ballots. King County Elections will tabulate all ballots and report all results as with all elections. Learn more about the candidates and vote online here:
What will our transportation system look like in 2050?
Puget Sound Regional Council
Did you know we have a four-county organization made up of elected and civic leaders who help chart the central Puget Sound’s transportation, economic, and growth management future? It’s called the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) and I currently serve as its president.
Through February 28, PSRC is seeking public input on its 30-year plan that guides how the region will meet its ambitious goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve transportation safety, expand transportation options, advance equitable outcomes for all, and so much more. Not least, the Plan will inform how we allocate the $250-300 million in annual federal transportation dollars used to build sidewalks, trails, transit, streets and highways in our region.
I believe we are stronger when we act together as a region to improve our quality of life, make our region more competitive for federal transportation funding, save lives, and address the climate crisis. How we plan for the future can contribute to real improvements to our transportation system.
Your input and voice in this important public comment process matters.
King County recognized for its COVID-19 response
This week American City & County recognized King County employees for their comprehensive and robust work to reduce the severity of COVID-19 in King County.
I applaud King County employees who have served selflessly to protect our neighbors and communities throughout this incredibly difficult time and congratulate them on this well-deserved honor.
