The start of an exciting year!
Dear Friend,
I couldn’t be more grateful to serve our communities as I start my term as King County Councilmember for District 3, nor more excited to work together with residents from part, or all, of the cities or surrounding areas of Issaquah, Sammamish, Redmond, Woodinville, Bothell, Duvall, Carnation, Preston, Fall City, Snoqualmie, North Bend, Snoqualmie Pass and Skykomish to ensure that each of our communities thrive, now and into the future!
So, as we get to work, I’d like to start out with two questions for you:
- What do you love about your community that you would like to protect and support?
- What about your community would you like to see created or changed?
Please consider these questions and let’s have a conversation over a cup of coffee in person, by Teams/Zoom, or by phone or email. These conversations are the way we will become the community we want to be together over the next 10 years as we grow and change. And it takes you to help bring about what you want to see in our communities! Thanks for being at the table.
Stay safe, stay healthy and stay in touch -
Sarah
Tell me what matters to you – take our survey!
We put together a quick survey to find out what is most important to my bosses, our District 3 residents - that's you and 251,999 others! You can fill it out here or request a paper copy through the mail by emailing me at sarah.perry@kingcounty.gov – or just give our office a call at 206-477-1003 and we will walk through this together by phone. Thanks!

Elected Chair of Local Services and Land Use Committee
I am excited to share that my colleagues have elected me as Chair of the Local Services and Land Use Committee of the King County Council. I look forward to leading on issues of our unincorporated and rural areas, permitting and zoning, county roads and bridges, local parks and trails, housing, growth management, water and sewer district plans, historic preservations, and more!
I’m also serving on the following committees: Committee of the Whole, Budget and Fiscal Management, Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee, Law, Justice, Health and Human Services Committee, Employment and Administration Committee, Regional Water Quality Committee, Flood Control District Board of Supervisors, and Flood Control District Executive Committee.
Our District 3 team is excited to get to work on meeting the needs of our communities in these areas and more.
Please plan to join us on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. for your King County Council meetings to listen or share, or both!
Legislative Priorities
I am excited to build on the feedback from your survey and, in the meantime, I have a few key priority areas that I am moving forward on right out of the gate:
-
Environment: I am prioritizing protecting farms, forests, air and water, supporting our Growth Management Act and zoning laws, as well as promoting transit options, alternatives and schedules that work for all of our working families.
-
Small Business: I am actively engaging with and supporting our small businesses throughout our communities, ensuring that each has access to pandemic recovery tools and will work together to remove obstacles, streamline fees, and promote visibility.
-
Equity, Access & Opportunity: I am looking forward to building our public/private partnerships as a voice and vote for workforce and affordable housing, realistic childcare and eldercare options, and apprenticeship/internship pipelines to family wage jobs prioritizing communities of color, women, veterans and youth exiting foster care.
-
Behavioral Health: I am passionate about finding innovative ways to strengthen the critical programmatic, workforce and facility space needed to meet the demand and ensure the potential for stable lives for our families and community members.
