In December, to express our gratitude for the VSHSL’s many partners and their work to support King County’s communities in 2021, we shared a few highlights from the past year. In 2021, VSHSL's partners continued to support the people they serve through the COVID-19 pandemic: providing emergency support, assisting with vaccination efforts and for some, transitioning back into in-person services later in the year.

Vets Engaged is seeking new applicants and wants to hear your ideas to help bridge the civilian-military divide. By awarding grants of $10,000 for individuals and organizations to create free community-building events and activities, Vets Engaged seeks to build, strengthen and sustain social networks between veterans and their neighbors. Applications are due February 18, 2022 by 5pm.

The Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County (WDC) recently announced awards made to five organizations totaling $1.825 million to serve individuals impacted by the criminal legal system. The funding, provided by the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy, will provide upstream and responsive services through community-led organizations that possess, or tap into, community-centered leadership, peer navigation, and the technical expertise needed to support individuals’ journeys toward employment and self-determination.

Congratulations to the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center for being awarded $500,000 through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to increase sexual violence services to meet the sharp rise in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The King County Sexual Assault Resource Center will provide crisis intervention services, information and referral services, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, and trauma-specific therapy through culturally and linguistically competent staff.
