The planned TOD site will ultimately include 6 buildings for office, retail, and a diverse array of housing choices, along with public open space
In order to maximize the potential for expanded light rail create livable and healthy communities and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, we must create more dense and affordable housing around transit stations – a process called Transit Oriented Development (TOD).
Yesterday, I, along with my colleagues on the Sound Transit Board of Directors, approved key terms on a $500 million project with BRIDGE Housing to build almost seven acres of TOD adjacent to the recently completed Operations and Maintenance Facility: East, located in Bellevue’s Spring District.
Together, through creative engineering and partnerships, Sound Transit, the City of Bellevue and BRIDGE housing are working to meet the needs of eastside transit riders, residents and employees and I’m excited that this project will contribute to the kind of welcoming neighborhood we have always planned for the Spring District.
The project is planned to include:
- Approximately 500 units of housing, of which around 280 are affordable units serving a range of incomes between 30% and 80% of area median income
- More than 400,000 square feet of office space
- Active ground floor uses including retail and resident amenities
- A public park
You can expect to see the project come out of the ground over phases over the next decade. Learn more about the new Operations and Maintenance Facility in this video celebrating the grand opening in May 2021:

COVID-19 vaccine booster shots available to all adults
Following the approval by FDA and CDC expert panels, the CDC's director announced this afternoon that every adult age 18+ is now officially eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine booster. The new recommendation will help simplify who can get a booster, and it will give increased protection against COVID-19 to Americans as the holidays begin.
Also as of yesterday, almost 20% of King County kids 5-11 years old have received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose since they became eligible two weeks ago. Check out the full data dashboard on COVID-19 vaccinations here:
