On Tuesday, the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended by a unanimous 14-0 vote to authorize the emergency use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. Following this recommendation and the concurrence by the CDC director, vaccines began shipping nationwide for immediate use. (BTW - King County’s Public Health Officer Dr. Jeff Duchin serves as a liaison alternate representative to the CDC Advisory Committee.)
As in the early days of COVID-19 vaccine distribution for adults, the process is hampered by a short supply of doses from the federal government. Our public health officials are again asking parents to pack their patience because it will take some time for doses specific for children ages 5-11 to make their way to vaccination sites.

Protect your property from flooding
As wet winter storms arrive in our region, they bring the increased possibility of flooding along our rivers and in urban and suburban neighborhoods. To help people protect their property should flooding occur along Lake Sammamish and surrounding areas, King County has set up a new sandbag distribution site in Marymoor Park. To learn more about how to access sandbags at this and the nine other distribution sites, visit the County’s website:
Access Paratransit Advisory Committee members needed
Do you use Access Paratransit? Are you interested in advising us on equal access to public transportation for people with disabilities? In 2018, I sponsored legislation to establish a permanent community input process to inform how King County provides special needs transit. Now, the King County Metro Transit Access Paratransit Advisory Committee, the committee formed from that legislation, is seeking new members. Help make a difference in our community by applying to the committee today:
