Recognizing National Police Week in King County
This week, I led the Council in recognizing National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day here in King County.
For many years now, the Council has recognized the police officers who lost their lives in service to their community during National Police Week. This year, this recognition is perhaps even more important because of the many more officers who lost their lives due to COVID. In the year 2020, 295 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty—a startling figure that includes 182 fatalities related to COVID as these officers served on the front lines of the pandemic. For them, working from home wasn’t an option.
Thank you to the Council for joining me in recognizing National Police Week and honoring the continued sacrifice of the men and women of law enforcement who risk their lives every day for the good of their community.
Mark your calendars: CSA town halls are coming up
