We are celebrating Older Americans Month! Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads the United States’ observance of Older Americans Month. The theme for 2021 is “Communities of Strength.” Older adults have built resilience and strength over their lives through successes, failures, joys and difficulties. To honor older adults in a way unique to the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) we will be sharing content, highlighting partners and bringing awareness to the work being done to support older adults right here in King County.
To kick off the month we talked about Virtual Villages and how eight VSHSL-funded organizations are helping seniors age in place.
The Wage and Benefits Survey has been extended and will now remain open until May 23.
The King County Nonprofit Wage and Benefits Survey and the Employee Engagement Survey will help build a stronger nonprofit community in King County. Funded through the VSHSL and administered by our partner 501 Commons, the surveys will produce an informational resource to help the nonprofit community better understand the array of influences – including wages – that contribute to successful employee recruitment, retention and satisfaction in the nonprofit sector.
Participation in the Wage and Benefits Survey is open to all King County-based and/or King County-serving nongovernmental, nonprofit entities. One employee from each nonprofit should complete the Wage and Benefits survey. The employee should be familiar with compensation and benefits such as an Executive Director, Human Resources staff or a Finance Manager. The survey questions will ask about pay levels and benefits. Survey completion time varies depending on the size and structure of your organization.
VSHSL-funded organizations, and any of their nonprofit subcontractors funded by VSHSL, are required to complete the Wage and Benefits Survey.

May is Asian American Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI) as well as Older Americans Month. As a group, AANHPI represent over 50 diverse countries and hundreds of unique languages and ethnicities. AANHPI elders have faced unique challenges throughout US history and continue to demonstrate incredible resilience and strength through today's unique challenges. In King County, a network of culturally informed senior service providers funded by VSHSL are helping to support AANHPI elders, ensuring they do not weather challenges alone.

One way King County is helping residents facing financial hardship and housing instability due to the COVID-19 pandemic is to provide rent assistance to keep people housed. Starting today, individuals can sign-up for rent assistance on the Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance Program (EPRAP) Tenant Portal.
- Tenants will submit their interest into King County’s “portal” system after answering questions that prescreen for eligibility.
- King County will randomly select tenants from the pool weekly to work with agencies to review their eligibility for rental assistance.
Tenants can now submit their EPRAP applications on the Tenant Portal.
