King County remains in Phase 3

On Monday, Gov. Jay Inslee announced a two-week pause for the Healthy Washington: Roadmap to Recovery reopening plan, which means King County remains in Phase 3 and indoor spaces such as restaurants, gyms and museums can to continue to operate with up to 50% of capacity.

Why the pause?  While new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are above the level that would trigger a roll back to Phase 2, it’s unclear from key indicator trends if the latest surge is growing or dissipating.

What can you do to help drive the indicators down and ensure we don’t fall back to Phase 2? If you haven't already, get vaccinated (it’s easier than ever to do so!). Also, be sure to continue to take the basic public health precautions to beat the pandemic.

North Link Service Guidelines restructure approved. By an 8-1 vote, a major restructure of the bus system in parts of north King County moves forward (north Seattle, Shoreline, Lake Forrest Park, Kenmore and Bothell) in anticipation of light rail expansion to Northgate. We will take up a similar restructure in two years to prepare Eastside bus service to compliment light rail service to Mercer Island, Bellevue and Redmond in 2023. I encourage you to stay informed and get involved with the East Link Connections transit planning here >>>

Strategic Climate Action Plan approved. We approved the five-year update to our County’s plan to fight climate change. Our approach is comprehensive, recognizing that transit service, housing availability and public health responses are all part of combating climate change. I’m grateful that the Council supported amendments I offered to improve accountability and ensure that our resources are being used to the maximum effect.
