Your Update on What's Happening at the King County Council

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

If you missed my recent Conference on Addiction Disorders, or were able to attend but want to re-watch it, it is now available to stream online! Go here to find footage of the conference, with different topics split into separate segments for ease of viewing—such as The Science Behind Addiction and Addressing the Stigmatization of Addiction.

During the Conference on Addiction Disorders, we heard the reoccurring message that the stigmatization of  substance use disorder is a known barrier to recovery. With that in mind, this week my colleague Councilmember Kohl-Welles and I introduced legislation that would help spread awareness that addiction is a physical disease that is treatable like other medical conditions. It is my hope that by de-stigmatizing addiction, it will be easier for people who are struggling to seek help. I will keep you updated on how this legislation progresses.

All my best,
