Working toward a recovery that makes us stronger

In 2020, we all confronted a global pandemic, its resulting economic crisis, and our nation’s deep racial injustices and inequities. In 2021, as Chair of the King County Council, I’m committed to addressing these ongoing challenges all while building toward a better, more equitable future with economic opportunity and improved public and mental health for all.

Watch and find out more about the King County Council's priorities for the year ahead, including the equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, housing for people experiencing homelessness, and criminal justice reform.

COVID-19 vaccine updates

Winter weather delays latest WA vaccine shipments: Due to the past week’s winter storms that impacted much of the nation, this week’s shipment of COVID-19 vaccine to Washington state is severely limited. In King County, the delay will impact most vaccination appointments scheduled for Friday, February 19, and likely into the weekend. Vaccine providers will reach out to reschedule appointments. If your second dose appointment is cancelled, make sure to reschedule with the same provider as your first dose appointment.

Making vaccine scheduling easier: Thank you to those who are continuing to send me emails and survey responses about trying to get a COVID-19 vaccine. As I reported last week, your voices are making a difference. Already we’re hearing of fixes and I’m continuing to advocate for improvements to make getting a vaccine easier. I will keep you informed as I learn more about this progress.

Recently KUOW reported about local grassroots efforts to help people find vaccine appointments in Washington state, including one by local software developers who created the WA COVID Vaccine Finder. Check out their entirely volunteer driven website that aggregates vaccine availability from Washington state providers, including in King County.

Eastside Mass Vaccination Site opens: Finally, in case you missed it, the Eastside has a mass vaccination site at Microsoft’s Redmond campus.
