Save the date: District 6 vaccine town hall on Jan. 26

The COVID-19 vaccine has given us hope for a return to normal life. It also raises a lot of questions. Who will get the vaccine next? How many people need to be vaccinated before we can reopen? Where will the vaccine be available? Join me and Public Health – Seattle & King County Director Patty Hayes for a virtual town hall to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine and other COVID-related issues.

The virtual town hall will be held Tuesday, January 26, from 6:00-7:00 pm (please note the updated time). Join on Zoom at https://kingcounty.zoom.us/j/95153749281, passcode: 607911 or by phone at 253-215-8782, passcode 607911.

To submit questions in advance or if you run into trouble accessing the meeting email Claudia.Balducci@kingcounty.gov. I hope to see you there!

S Bellevue P&R

Great news! Sound Transit will open its 1,500-stall parking garage at the future East Link South Bellevue Station in September. On-time construction and close collaboration with the City of Bellevue made it possible for Sound Transit to open the garage to bus riders nearly two years before the scheduled opening of East Link.

ST Express route 550 riders and King County Metro riders who had to use alternative parking spaces when East Link construction began in 2017 will be able to return to the new garage at the same park-and-ride location. Bus stop and schedule information will be announced later this year as part of the September 2021 service change.

Over the next few years, Sound Transit will be delivering 28 light rail stations across 40 new miles of light rail, along with three new bus rapid transit lines. South Bellevue Park-and-Ride’s early opening represents one of the very first steps in this major system expansion and demonstrates that, together, we will accomplish big things to make our region more livable and economically competitive via great transit.

Sports and WaterWorks grant opportunities open now

It’s the last call for Youth and Amateur Sports Grants that support fit and healthy communities by investing in programs and capital projects that increase access to physical activity. Both capital projects and programs and activation grants are due January 27.

Sound investments in clean water improves our communities and the natural environment. To help achieve that end, the WaterWorks Grant Program provides funding to organizations for projects that create a benefit to or improvement of water quality within the King County Wastewater Treatment Division’s service area and benefit its ratepayers.

Vaccine distribution opens to group 1B1

On Monday, Governor Inslee announced the state is opening vaccine distribution to “Phase 1B1.” This group includes adults age 65 and over and people age 50 and older who meet certain risk criteria and live in intergenerational households. In King County, more than 300,000 people are included in phase 1B1.

This is great news, but it’s critical to note that the biggest obstacle to delivering more vaccine is the limited supply available right now. The lack of vaccine is very frustrating, but in the meantime, we can continue to prepare for when the federal government makes more vaccine available in Washington state and King County. Public Health – Seattle & King County has put together helpful information about this latest vaccine distribution expansion, particularly for older adults in King County.
