Elevating fairness and inclusive representation for King County

While other governments in our country see extremes of division and gerrymandering, King County continues to place the interests of our residents ahead of partisanship. Earlier this week, the King County Council appointed the first four of five members to the 2021 King County Districting Committee. The committee will redraw the boundaries for King County Council districts using 2020 census data in a process that runs parallel to state and federal redistricting.

The current King County Council District boundaries will be redrawn by the newly-formed 2021 King County Districting Committee

The 2021 King County Districting Committee will elevate fairness and truly inclusive representation. The committee members represent a high level of skill and civic engagement, as well as the diversity of opinions and backgrounds that reflects the best of King County. I want to thank each of them for their dedication to ensuring all county residents are represented fully via this once-in-a-decade districting process.

Save the date: District 6 town hall

The COVID-19 vaccine has given us hope for a return to normal life. It also raises a lot of questions. Who will get the vaccine next? How many people need to be vaccinated before we can reopen? Where will the vaccine be available? Join me and Public Health – Seattle & King County Director Patty Hayes for a virtual town hall to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine and other COVID-related issues.

The town hall will be held Tuesday, January 26, from 5:00-6:00 pm. Join on Zoom at https://kingcounty.zoom.us/j/95153749281, passcode: 607911 or by phone at 253-215-8782, passcode 607911.

You can submit questions in advance to Claudia.Balducci@kingcounty.gov. I hope to see you there!

New King County vaccine dashboard released

vaccine

As vaccine distribution continues, a new Public Health – Seattle & King County dashboard, updated on weekdays, shows how many people have been vaccinated for COVID-19, their demographics, and the number of doses allocated to providers in King County.

Check your vaccine eligibility status with the new Phase Finder tool

Washington State Department of Health (DOH) continues to develop its Phase Finder tool, an online self-assessment to help people find out if they are eligible for vaccination. Phase Finder provides:

  • confirmation of eligibility that can be shown at a vaccination site, and
  • a link to a list of available sites for vaccination.

Washington state remains in phase 1a of vaccine distribution but will be open to other priority groups as the state moves to new phases of vaccine distribution.
