Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This morning County Council Chair Balducci, Councilmember Dembowski and I joined County Executive Constantine and Public Health Director Patty Hayes to announce a significant investment by the County to increase its vaccination capacity.
The County is creating high-volume community vaccination sites and mobile teams so that as many residents as possible will be quickly, efficiently, and equitably vaccinated.
I applaud Executive Constantine for committing to this crucial investment in building the County’s vaccination infrastructure and subsequent ability to combat COVID-10. As the Council’s Budget Chair, I will be working with the Executive to secure federal funding for reimbursement of this essential investment. Unfortunately, we are filling a gap that has resulted from the failure of the current federal Administration to fulfill its responsibility. The reality is we cannot wait. Investing now will make it possible for us to significantly and equitably expand vaccination capacity and accessibility as the doses become available.
As Executive Constantine stated, “King County will step up and organize community vaccination centers and mobile teams to make sure we hit the ground running as medical personnel receive their doses,” said Executive Constantine. “If everything goes to plan, we must vaccinate 16,000 adults every day for 6 months to get this pandemic under control. We are moving ahead now despite having clarity on supply chain or federal funding allocation because every day delayed impacts the lives of our residents, the strength of our community, and the vitality of our businesses.”
