Rail removal this winter, trail open by end of summer 2021

King County Parks will begin removing railroad rails this week to make way for 2.5 miles of new Eastrail that will connect Kirkland to Woodinville (View Map). Rail removal will occur in December and January, with trail construction complete by the end of summer 2021.

Upcoming rail removal area and new trail section.

This new Eastrail section will continue north from the end of the Cross Kirkland Corridor to NE 145th in Woodinville near the Chateau Ste. Michelle winery. A new trail crossing at NE 145th will be built by the City of Woodinville allowing connections to the Sammamish River Trail.

This new section includes Kirkland’s Willows Road Regional Trail Connection, which is already under construction.

King County is committed to developing trail in all areas where rail is being removed; however, several miles of the rail removal will not be turned into trail in 2021.
